Data Collection and Cookies
Our Web servers automatically recognize the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of visitors to our sites. We collect aggregate information on the dates and times people visit, their IP addresses, what pages are accessed, operating systems and Web browsers visitors use to access our sites, and the sites that refer visitors to us (e.g., search engines). We also collect specific information volunteered by visitors, such as e-mail addresses, survey information, and/or site log-ons and registrations.
We do not provide information regarding specific individual’s activities on our sites to any ad server companies.
E-mail Messages and Addresses
With one small exception, we will not sell or give your e-mail address to other companies or people. The exception is for other companies whose products or services you purchase through us. At that point, you also become their customer, and they may have a need for this information. We also reserve the right to transfer this information along with other assets in the event our company or our websites are ever purchased by or merged with another organization.
CMIA does not send spam, and we employ internal guidelines to assure that we use the e-mail addresses provided by our visitors or customers only in ways we would want our own e-mail addresses used by others.
As a service to our visitors and customers, we publish various e-mail newsletters. We never arbitrarily add people to these lists. To be placed on one of these lists, you must sign up on the E-Mail Newsletter Registration page or request one of our employees to add you. Each newsletter is published on a specific schedule, and, with the exception of The Electronic Owl, we send no additional e-mails to e-mail newsletter subscribers. We do occasionally send unscheduled announcements of important developments concerning the CMIA library or other services to subscribers to The Electronic Owl. Each newsletter issue includes specific instructions for removing your e-mail address from the mailing list, with a link to the unsubscribe page on our website.
We occasionally send e-mails with news about CMIA or our products or services to customers who subscribe to our reference services, in print or online, who purchase our online continuing education (CE) courses, or who have attended our conferences, seminars, or webinars.
Postal Mail and Phone Contact Information
If you supply us with your postal address, you may receive periodic mailings from us with information on products and services or upcoming events. We may also share your postal address with other reputable companies.
If you supply us with your telephone number, you may receive telephone contact from us with information regarding products and services or upcoming events. With one small exception, we will not share your phone number with other companies. The exception is for other companies whose products or services you purchase through us. At that point, you also become their customer, and they may have a need for this information. We also reserve the right to transfer this information along with other assets in the event our company or our websites are ever purchased by or merged with another organization.
Making Changes or Opting Out
On request, we provide site visitors with access to unique identifier information (e.g., customer number or password) and contact information (e.g., name, address, phone number) that we maintain about them. We will also correct any inaccuracies in your contact information you bring to our attention.
On request, we also offer you the ability to have inaccuracies corrected in contact information. You can have this information corrected by sending us e-mail at the above address. To do so, simply provide us with your name, postal address, and phone number.
You can remove yourself from the mailing list of any CMIA e-mail newsletter by visiting the E-mail Newsletter Unsubscribe page and following the directions. To change the e-mail address to which a newsletter is sent, follow the directions to unsubscribe and then subscribe again with your new address.
If you do not wish for us to contact you or allow others to contact you in the manners noted above, we will add you to our do-not contact and/or do-not-share lists upon request.
Please use the E-mail Newsletter Unsubscribe page to opt out of any or all of our e-mail lists. Make any of these other requests by completing the contact us form, phoning our customer service department, or sending a letter to our postal address. So that we may honor your request, please identify yourself fully by including your exact name, postal address, e-mail address, and phone number.
CMIA takes security seriously. We have implemented various security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of information that we have collected from you.
